The above work of art is an etching titled “Liberty Taking a Break From Leading the People”. It is an “re-imagining” of Eugene Delacroix’s famous 19th century painting “Liberty Leading the People”. The characters are lifted directly from his painting, including the French Revolution taking place outside. However the bar is (was) an actual bar called Landlord Jim’s, a fixture for decades in downtown San Diego. Eminent Domain removed it for all time, but the memories remain.

Kathi McCord is a printmaker and illustrator. Her politically oriented etchings titled “Toys in Peril,” received praise from local iconic art writer Robert Pincus, who describes the work as “immaculately executed” and added that “the wry tone of them is finely tuned. Her woodcuts and illustrations have received much praise, as well.

Kathi is a creative and technical artist. She has been a professor of art and film at Southwestern College and Miramar College for more than 20 years. Kathi has illustrated over 50 books for children, a beautiful way to have made a living while still caring for her own young children. Besides that, it was great FUN for her.

She currently lives and works in Encinitas, California with her dear husband and bakes 365 cakes a year.
